LATTER Days Saints technical college dominated the Suva Secondary Schools Basketball competition yesterday taking out four of six titles. The team featured in all the finals with the U19 boys earning the champions accolade defeating Marist Brothers High School 30-23.
Yat Sen Secondary School took out top honours in the U19 girls division edging LDS 26-20. LDS won both the divisions in the U17 grade with the U19 and U15 girls grade being the only titles they did not win.
SSB Association president Jo Tamani said the matches were close and indicated the development of the sport in the Southern division was on track.
"The results are really good with a few matches going into extra time which bodes well for the development of the sport. The teams go into a two weeks break before competing in the national event in the two weeks holiday," he said. He said LDS had always excelled in basketball and proved their dominant position in yesterday's matches. "They seem to be the powerhouse of basketball in Fiji. A lot of the students are raised playing basketball from Primary school right up to the elite levels and it showed today," he said.
