Martha Johansson wins Kaila

FOR 14-year-old Martha Johansson winning the Kaila! Star Search was never on her mind, all she expected was to share her talent with other musicians and people who are willing to learn music.

Born and raised in New Zealand, Martha has quickly adapted to Fiji's climate, culture and tradition something she is not new to as her parents are from Tonga and Samoa but were also born and raised in New Zealand.

After three months of rehearsals and late nights, Martha finally had time to spend with her family and members of the Latter Day Saints Church community.

"I've always wanted to do something with music, mainly in teaching but I've always wanted to perform. I want to perform but I don't want that to be my life because I know that when I am older I want to get married and have a family and I don't think that solely performing is going to be kind of fitting," she said.

She said she would rather teach and conduct tutorials in piano and guitar lessons. For someone who has never been part of a singing competition, she said her biggest motivation were her parents Adolf and Martha Johansson and three brothers.

Her winning number was from a Hawaiian reggae group called Kolohe Kai called Ehu Girl mixing it with Fiji's famous farewell song Isa Isa vulagi lasa dina.
