LDS dominates Secondary Schools Basketball

Vodafone Arena, Laucala -

LATTER Day Saints Church College dominated in the Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball finals winning three out of the six grade titles. All their teams, both girls and boys, in the Under 15, Under 17, and Under 19, made it through to the Semi-finals.

The U15 girls’ team took out top honors defeating Suva Grammar School 30-24.
The school's U17 grades later took out both the girls and boys titles winning against Suva Grammar 26-19 in the girls grade and 34 -20 in the boys.

U15 assistant coach Lote Qoroya said the team had done well to reach the final with the team practicing for the past three months.

"The team was down and Suva Grammar beat them twice but then they knew that they had to come back and beat them and we thank Suva Grammar for the game that they gave and the sacrifice the children did and the parents and the teachers," he said. With core of the team still 13-14 years of age, Qoroya said the team looks to regroup and work at winning the next grade in the years to come.

U17 coach Joshua Cocker said he was overwhelmed with the boys' and the girls' performance.
"For the boys’ team this is the same squad that played last year and they have been preparing since the start of school term and I am overwhelmed with the results today," he said.
