Church Helps Trace PM’s Family Tree

Story taken from the Fiji Sun Newpaper -

Elder Adolf Johansson handsover Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama geneology at the Latter Day Saints service centre after his visit to the temple yesterday.

The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, received a framed portrait of his family tree on Wednesday from the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Suva.

The lineage of his family’s ancestry dated back to 1577B.C.

He was presented the portrait while visiting the LDS Suva-Fiji Temple with some Government ministers on Wednesday.

The family tree, stating 27 generations of the Bainimarama family, was obtained from the Church’s Family History and Genealogy Records.

The PM said he was really happy to receive such a valuable gift.

The church had offered help to Fijians who want to trace their family trees and genealogy records.

Elder Gifford Nielsen, who is in charge of the Pacific Area, said the family tree and genealogy were very important to the church because they gave details of the ancestry and descent of families of church members.
