DTA Brent Buckner Encouraged Fiji Service Centre Staff to seek inspiration daily.

Samabula, Suva -

Elder Adolf Johansson of the Seventy with Brent Buckner, Director of Temporal Affairs for the Pacific Area
This week the Fiji Service Centre was privileged to be visited by the Director of Temporal Affairs for the Pacific Area, Brent Buckner.

As the chief guest of the office's devotion he thanked all the employees for their hard work in serving the people and encouraged them to seek the Lord’s inspiration daily for their work.

“Search the Book of Mormon and the words of the living prophet every day as it’s the key to spiritual survival. Sometimes, we do not receive answers to our prayers because we are not ready”, he said.

He said that an electric appliance connected to the power outlet cannot start automatically until the power source is switched on

“ Likewise, may we always be switched on, so that when our services are needed we’ll be ready.” He shared a quote that has inspired him over the years which states, “Strength doesn’t come from what you do, but from overcoming what you thought you could not do”.

Fiji LDS Primary’s Cultural Night 2015

Samabula, Suva -

Initiated by the school’s PGTA (Parents, Guardians and Teachers Association), LDS Primary school hosted its annual cultural show on the eve of August the 13th. Teachers and their students presented their talents through dance and music.

The cultural hall and the chapel was jammed pack with families, friends and neighbors. The PGTA also provided a variety of menu for dinner. It was a great multicultural celebration. Many requests have been made for another cultural show and so we promise to have another show in 2016.

On behalf of the school administration and faculty we thank PGTA for their time. Parents, we are grateful for your support given not only to your children but to the school as whole.

Thank you all.

2015 Teens Miss Charity, Sereana Vitinavulagi

Suva, Fiji
Miss Central Cuisine Sereana Rainima
THIS year’s Hibiscus Festival showcased 12 teens’ contestants, vying for the 2015 teen crown. One of them was our very own Sereana Vitinavulagi, a Year 11 student at the Fiji LDS Church College, who entered as Miss Central Cuisine.

The 2015 Hibiscus Festival theme was “Climate Change – Communities adapting from the Ridge to the Reef.” Sereana did a wonderfully commendable job in portraying the theme with her costume designs, presentations, and other social engagement, which drew an out-pour of admiration on social media from families, fans, and friends.

Sereana eventually won the award that mirrored one of her greatest Young Women’s value, which is Miss Charity.

We also take this time to congratulate an Alumni, who was the Head boy of Fiji LDS Church College in 2011, Timoci Tupua, who finished as first runner up in the King’s contest.

1st Runner Up Timoci Tupua, 2015 King Tevita Tobeyaweni, and 2nd Runner Up Ashnil Sharma
Both Timoci and Sereana were warmly congratulated by 2014 Miss Teens winner, Sereana Rainima, who was also former student at LDS Church college.

Tima and Raijeli are Common Wealth Bronze Medalists

Apia, Samoa -
Timaima Williams & Raijeli Naisake, at the Rugby House ready for Samoa.
FOR the first time, Fiji sent a women’s U18 sevens team to the Common Wealth Youth games that’s currently taking place in Apia, Samoa. Assistant coach, Iliesa Tanivula believed it was a good experience for the players, who are competing in the sport for the first time.

“Most of them play netball, hockey and a few other sports. They’ve got that agility and athleticism in them and it was just a matter of bringing them in and showing the skills set that is needed in rugby. The response had been good from them and it’s something that we are all learning of each other,” commented Tanivula.

The girls will return home with the bronze medal after beating Cook Islands in a hard fought bronze medal playoff  with a 26-19 victory.

The side had the services of 6 Cawaci girls from Ovalau, 2 from Jasper Wiliams High School, 2 from Ballantine Memorial School, and 2 from Fiji LDS Church College.

The two girls from LDS Church College were Timamima Williams and Raijeli Naisake. The faculty, students, and parents wish them a safe return and are extremely proud of their accomplishment.
